TV Drama Cutting It clip analysis - Mise-en-scene

Positioning -

• When she is hit by a car the bus covers the moment. This creates confusion/mystery.
• Bus goes past before the women gets hit as well.
• When the women is entering the hospital there is a blue truck waiting to pull out but this is not noticed by the women which makes me think that she doesn't see any danger with traffic.

Symbols/props-

• There is an elephant on the doctors desk which could relate to the sayin 'elephants never forget' which relates to the scene as the couple talk about a clean slate for the future but the past cannot be forgotten.
• Flowers on the side of the man when he is laying on the floor could symbolise life.
• The women gets hit by the thirteenth bus in the scene, 'unlucky thirteen'.
• Wedding ring sybolises mariage which is an important element of the scene.
• Fairy lights in the background sparkle when the women gets hit by the car making the scene seem as if it is a dream.
• A man in a red jacket passes the women on the way out of the hospital which could symbolise danger.
• The main male character is wearing a dull suit which represents his status and also shows the emphasis of the scene is on the narrative.
• The doctors desk is very cluttered but emphasis is still put on the folder.

Location/lighting

• In the doctors office the lighting is very dark and you cannot even see any of the walls. This is abnormal for a hospital so I think this is done to create a sense of tunnel vision or even a nightmarish feel.
• The main location in this scene is a typical London black cab

1. Clothing - The clothing worn by the male in this clip looks cheap and dirty.
The female in this clip is wearing typical clothing for a working class family.

4. Lighting - The street this clip is set in is very dark with limited street lighting.

Performance - The male is acting very drunk in this scene.
The female is acting a bit worried to begin with but once she realises who is outside she seems more comfortable.
Facial expressions - The male looks as if he is drunk as he seems unable to focus on anything.
The female begins with a confused look on her face but once she establishes who is outside and what he wants she becomes happy.
Make up - The male has make up to make him look like he has been having a hard night drinking.

1. Clothing - The teens in this scene are typically dressed like teens and the teachers are dressed how you would expect teachers to dress.

3. Setting/location - The scene is set in a school gym where some kind of talk appears to be going on.
4. Lighting - The room is generally light but when the camera focuses on the main action things become more darker.

Performance - The main male in this scene acts very cocky and inappropriate towards the main female.
The main female acts disgusted and also proves she is in control of the situation by telling on the male.
Facial expressions - The male is smirking and looking smug.
The main female looks disgusted by the males remarks but when she tells on him she herself looks smug. When the male drops his trousers in front of everyone she looks shocked. This feeling is also shared by the others in the group.
Make up - The main female is wearing typical teenage girl style makeup.
